Madaleine's Fable

The Lost Little Blue Penguin in Oamaru
A young penguin named Syd was sauntering down the coast of the small town of Oamaru. He wondered if there was anyone like him.
He decided to dive into the deep blue sea. He went out a couple of miles until he came upon a Blue Whale.
Syd asked, “What and who are you?”
He answered, “I’m Maxwell, a Blue Whale, and I can see that you’re a lost penguin.”
Syd sobbed “Yes, I am a penguin that’s lost. I can’t find anyone like me!”
“Follow me,” The Whale replied.
The Whale took him towards South Oamaru, where he soon found a whole colony of penguins, looking for some new friends!
Syd was ecstatic to know there were more penguins, just like him. Then it struck him.
“I like having friends but are you all exactly like me? If you are then I’m not an individual!”
The whole colony replied, “You are yourself because even though we may look alike, we’re still different inside.”

Kate's Fable

Max the little blue penguin
by Kate Moffat
Once there was a little blue penguin called Max. Max loved to eat fish and he was very good at catching them too.
One day most of the fish ran out because the fishermen were catching fish to feed to the other animals. There was eight fish left therefore Max got very greedy and ate and caught five of them. Soon the other penguins realised there wasn’t much fish left .They searched everywhere to find some food.
Little Max found the other three fish and soon all the other penguins crowded him wanting the fish. Max was felling very selfish and gulped all of the fish down in a flash. The other penguins were very angry, they ignored Max. Max had no friends or family that paid attention to him.
Soon all of the penguin’s knew that they would die of hunger, even Max got hungry.
Thankfully people gave the penguin’s lots and lots of fish to eat but none of them
shared there fish with poor Max. Little Max didn’t eat anything for days and days and
soon he realised that what he did was wrong.

The moral of the story: To share and not be selfish

Testing our boats

Yesterday we tested our boats. They all floated really well and we had to put in over 60 marbles in each boat to make them sink!
